Fighting Fit

We all heard the latest research findings for preventing cancer yesterday.....I really like this top 10 list of things we can all do to look after ourselves, from Globe and Mail.

Ten recommendations

  • Be as lean as possible within the normal range of body weight.
  • Be physically active as part of everyday life.
  • Limit consumption of energy-dense foods high in fat and sugar but low in fibre. Avoid sugary drinks.
  • Eat mostly foods of plant origin.
  • Limit intake of red meat and avoid processed meat.
  • Limit alcoholic drinks.
  • Limit consumption of salt.
  • Aim to meet nutritional needs through diet alone.
  • Mothers to breastfeed; children to be breastfed.
  • Cancer survivors to follow the recommendations for cancer prevention.

Mountain Buggy - Urban

Our other option for a jogging pram is the Mountain Buggy - Urban. Some friends of mine who have this pram are looking to upgrade to the Baby Jogger though, to give their baby a smoother ride....plus I note the website indicates they are suitable for power walking, or light jogging, and I think I want something a bit 'faster'. So - I am not certain this is the pram for me.

This limited edition 50's design Mountain Buggy would be a very cool purchase for a new-retro power walking Mum however! Available from these stockists.

Baby Jogger

The more serious runners I know have all purchased the Baby Jogger. I am looking into hiring one to try before purchasing. If the trial goes well, I plan to have a good look on ebay for a second-hand one.

Not quite sure where I will store it? Perhaps it will have to stay downstairs in the car park, chained up with the bikes?

Jogging Pram #1

Holly is waking up earlier and earlier, with the onset of the Queensland summer. I have lots of time to kill in the early mornings, and am thinking that this jogging pram by Instep would help me fill some time effectively.....

Available at a reduced price from Deals Direct.

However, the search continues and there will be more posts to this effect soon...

The Secret of the Bionic Woman

...........well, not really, but Bio Oil claims to prevent stretch marks, as well as reduce the appearance of any existing ones. I used this religiously through pregnancy, and not one stretch mark developed...

It also helps reduce uneven skin tone, which is handy post-partum. Good-bye "mask of pregnancy".

Bio Oil can be found at most chemists. You can also get it online - check availability here.

Pilates in Peace

Before I had Holly, I loved to do Pilates classes. When I got pregnant, I found it easier to do a class at home using this DVD. I took a little break from about 36 weeks of pregnancy and am just getting back into it, 4 months after giving birth. It was much easier to get a session in before Holly was born!

We got this DVD from Amazon. I still find it is a good workout now and hopefully, will keep using it.

If you've never done Pilates before, it is a good idea to see a Pilates Instructor/Physiotherapist first, to ensure you are doing the exercises correctly.
